Just one hour away from Portland is the town of Silverton. It’s another iconic Oregon town that has a small population of just 9,500 people.

What makes Silverton a great place to visit is that it’s the true definition of a small town since and it has all of the charm that you will find in other small towns across Oregon including quaint shops and stores, great restaurants and plenty of friendly people.

In 2019, Silverton is still a farming community but it’s also turned into a tourist attraction because here you can enjoy the natural beauty of the local falls and state parks while feeling like you’re a part of a small town with local events like Homer Davenport Days.

Covered Bridges And Cool Houses

When you come to Silverton, besides visiting the local falls, you don’t want to miss out on visiting the Gordon House, a sleek 1930’s home that was designed by famed architect Frank Llyod Wright. The home is located next to the Oregon Garden and can be toured for $20 and it’s totally worth it for architecture fans since few people have been able to tour a home that was designed by the master architect.

Where To Eat In Silverton

After hanging out in Silverton for the day you’re going to be hungry right? Head over to Gather, Silverton’s “industrial chic” cafe that has yummy comfort food on the menu. We recommend the biscuits and gravy but since you’re only here for the day you may want to try their chicken and waffles or the lemon ricotta pancakes. It’s all too good!

The cool thing about visiting this cool Oregon town is that it’s close enough to Portland that you can escape the city for the day and still be home in time for work on Monday morning! Don’t miss Silverton, you will be glad you paid this small town a visit!
